The assignment will take the form of a (mock) letter to the Office of the Federal Ombudsperson for Victims of Crime. https://www.victimsfirst.gc.ca/ . An important part of this Office is identifying issues that impact victims of crime and recommending ways that the federal government can make its laws, policies, and processes more responsive to victims
The goal of your letter will be to select a specific aspect, related to victims of crime, that you feel
requires further attention or/and reform

Paper overview;
Introduction: Your paper should include an introduction that outlines the focus of your
topic/position and why it is of importance. You should also introduce yourself (e.g., a
student at the University of ———) and why you are concerned about this issue.
You should include an overview of the structure of your letter and identification of your
argument, position, or request to the Ombudsperson. ½ – 1 page
Body/Findings: The main body of your paper will present findings from the academic
research you reviewed to justify why this topic is of importance. You may, for example,
identify a debate in the literature, by presenting different sides, or discuss the main themes
from the research you reviewed. Importantly, the literature you integrate should justify or
support the argument, position or request you identified in your introduction.
Ultimately, this section will provide the evidence to confirm your argument or request.
You should include 4-5 academic sources to support your writing. 4- 4.5 pages
Conclusion;
Your conclusion should summarize the main themes of your paper and re-
affirm your argument/request/position. This may also include a discussion of best practices
or recommendations, solutions to prevent/address the topic, and/or or future research or
policy needs related to your topic. 1 page
